Macmillan Cancer Support is still far from finalising its Coffee Morning fundraising total, but it has already smashed its record by £3m.

The World’s Biggest Coffee Morning this year has already raised more than £13m, with money still coming in. Last year’s coffee morning previously was its most profitable to date – raising £10m, which.

This year’s event, held at the end of September, had broken last year’s record by the end of October. The 2011 coffee morning final total was not announced until February this year, suggesting that 2012 could, in the end, prove an unprecedented improvement in year-on-year fundraising. The final figure will be tallied in January.

Macmillan’s Coffee Morning has long been the envy of other fundraising charities, and is seen as the UK’s premier mass participation event. Some 115,000 people hosted coffee mornings, with many times that participating as guests or donors. The number of coffee morning hosts doubled year-on-year; 51,000 people had hosted events in 2011, reaching a total of 2.5m people.
