Macmillan Cancer Support’s flagship fundraising event, the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning, has beaten its previous year’s record by £2.6m, raising £27.6m for people affected by cancer.

The event, which celebrated its 25th anniversary on 25 September 2015, has now raised over £150m since the first official event took place in 1991. Last year’s event had over 225,000 registered hosts across the UK.

Macmillan’s Coffee Morning partner, M&S, also raised a record total of £1.6m for the event in 2015 across 600 stores, offices and warehouses.

Richard Taylor, executive director of fundraising, marketing and communications for Macmillan, said: “I’d like to thank every single one of our wonderful coffee morning hosts and guests who took part last year and helped us celebrate the 25th World’s Biggest Coffee Morning by raising such an enormous amount of money.

“The event is so simple but really resonates with people who continue to come together to drink coffee, eat cake and raise vital funds which will help valuable Macmillan services and professionals ensure no one faces cancer alone.”

World’s Biggest Coffee Morning will occur on 30 September 2016.
