London Marathon Charitable Trust awards grants worth £2m to charities

The London Marathon Charitable Trust has made grants totalling more than £2m for projects in London, Buckinghamshire and Surrey, taking the total amount of money awarded in the trust’s history to more than £70m, it announced today.

The latest grants include £841,500 for the Royal Parks charity to deliver improvements to the Gloucester Gate Playground in Regents Park and Greenwich Park Playground.

Loyd Grossman, chair of the Royal Parks charity, said: “This investment will allow the creation of play facilities of the highest quality. Through innovative design, the existing playgrounds will be transformed, catering to visitors of all ages and abilities and encouraging imaginative and social play.

“We are very grateful to The London Marathon Charitable Trust for making these ambitious plans a reality.”

Some £650,000 of grant funding has been awarded to Barking and Dagenham Council towards a new community fitness centre at Parsloes Park and improvements to Valence Park.

Darren Rodwell, leader of Barking and Dagenham Council, said: “Parsloes Park is where the legendary Bobby Moore honed his skills.

“Now, with the help of The London Marathon Charitable Trust, the Parklife Project will see massive improvements to toward the football facilities and revitalised spaces for people to play sport.”

The London Borough of Westminster has been awarded a grant of £74,800 to undertake the refurbishment of the Lisson Green Estate Football Pitch.

Sandra Skeete, interim managing director of CityWest Homes, said: “We want to say a big thank you to The London Marathon Charitable Trust for this donation and for supporting us to help create a place where people are proud to live.”

Smaller grants were also made to the London boroughs of Haringey, Richmond and Merton.

Other grant recipients were Earlsfield Amateur Boxing Club, Streatham Park Bowling Club, the Old Parkonians Association in Redbridge, Oasis Children;s Venture in Lambeth, Forest Enterprise England, Dartfordians Community Sports Club, Toynbee Hall, Purley Sports Club in Sutton, Windlesham Field of Remembrance.
