The Lloyds TSB Foundation has launched a £2m fund for charities in England and Wales providing innovative support projects for older people.

The fund, ‘Supporting empowerment of older people to live a fuller role in the Community’ is offering charities at least £50,000 over three years for core project funding aimed at helping older people to feel empowered and independent, particularly those who are struggling financially. It will not fund capital costs.

The programme is open to registered charities that already work with older people and can demonstrate a track record of results.

Linda Kelly, chief executive of the Foundation, said: “This programme is in addition to our ongoing core cost investment in small to medium-sized charities supporting older people and we hope this will encourage a wider range of charities to access funding for this vulnerable and often hidden group in our society.”

In 2011 the Lloyds TSB Foundation invested almost £1m in 37 different charities supporting older people through its Community programme.

The deadline to submit an expression of interest is 20 September 2012. Charities that are successful at this stage will be invited to complete a full application by 2 November.
