Leukaemia Research has changed its name to Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research to mark a new strategy which will see the charity focus on all types of blood cancers, including leukaemia, lymphoma and myeloma.

Cathy Gilman, chief executive of Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research, said: "When we began in 1960, our main focus was to cure childhood leukaemia. With a better understanding of blood cancer we now aim to save the lives of all blood cancer patients. The unique thing about blood cancers - including leukaemia, lymphoma and myeloma - is that they affect people of all ages from newborn babies to grandparents.

"If we are to save more lives it is important that we can reach them all. Our change of name will help us to communicate the breadth of our work better and to support more patients than ever before!"

The charity, which has seen its income drop by 25 per cent, needs to raise £120m over the next five years to continue planned research of blood cancers. The review coincides with the charity's 50th anniversary
