JustTextGiving has launched the second phase of its service, enabling individual fundraisers to sign up for personal codes to attract donations.
The mobile donation service, a joint venture between Vodafone and JustGiving is now going after the bedrock of the traditional JustGiving platform: individuals doing something to raise money for charity.
This foray into individual fundraisers follows on the heels of what can only be described as a successful launch to charities directly, with more than 12,000 UK charities signing up for Vodafone codes since the service was launched earlier this year.
Five celebrities have kicked off this latest stage of the JustTextGiving venture, with the likes of Lisa Snowdon and Amanda Holden abseiling and running for different charities.
Individuals need to set up their individual codes on the JustTextGiving website, after which they will receive their code. They can then get their family and friends to send a text to 70070 with their code and the amount they wish to donate.
According to a YouGov poll commissioned by JustTextGiving, 48 per cent of individual fundraisers believe they would earn more for charity if they could access text giving.
Vodafone chief executive Guy Laurence predicted that by 2014 text donations “are set to be worth £96m a year”.
