Javed Khan is to return to his role as chief executive of Victim Support after the charity found no evidence to substantiate claims, made in the press, that he had been involved in an armed land dispute abroad.

On 26th January 2014, The Mail on Sunday published allegations about an incident involving the chief executive of Victim Support, Khan, during a trip he made to Pakistan in a personal capacity.

In response, Khan issued a statement describing these allegations as “either false or a gross distortion of the truth”. In particular, he denied threatening anybody during the incident referred to by The Mail on Sunday and he denied that he or any of his associates had been armed.

The following day, Victim Support trustees launched an independent investigation into these allegations to establish what evidence there was to substantiate them.

This investigation interviewed a number of individuals including Khan. The investigation also examined a number of documents relating to a land dispute in Pakistan.

The investigation has now concluded and found no evidence to substantiate the allegations published by The Mail on Sunday.

As a result, the trustees have agreed that Khan will return to Victim Support as chief executive for a short time. He will complete his preparations to leave the charity and then depart as planned to take up his next role at Barnardo’s as chief executive.

Victim Support has been recruiting a new chief executive and expects to make an announcement shortly.

Enid Rowlands, chair of Victim Support, said: “The independent investigation has concluded and found no evidence to substantiate these allegations. Javed will be returning for a short handover period, before he leaves Victim Support.

“The trustees would like to thank Javed for his successful leadership of the charity over the last three and a half years and we wish him well in his new role.”

Khan said: “I am delighted that an independent investigation has cleared me of these allegations.

“I would like to thank the staff and volunteers at Victim Support for continuing their important work on behalf of victims and witnesses over the last few weeks.

“I look forward to continuing my leadership career and to serving British society as a whole.”
