A raft of British international aid organisations have launched appeals to raise money for those affected by the Ivory Coast, as the country suffers as a result of ongoing violence as rebels and government forces battle over the presidency.

Oxfam has launched the biggest appeal, seeking £10m for emergency aid to refugees fleeing the Ivory Coast conflict and people stuck in the violence. The British Red Cross, Unicef and Save the Children have also launched appeals with Christian Aid, Merlin and Care International reporting from the crisis, but not fundraising specifically for it. Care International said it is "constantly monitoring the situation" and will respond as appropriate.

The United Nations has requested US$146.5m to assist in dealing with the crisis, but the international response has been slow, with just a quarter of those funds presently available to the UN.

With violence continuing in the country, the chief operations of the INGO community appear to be in neighbouring countries, dealing with the influx of refugees escaping the conflict.
