The Institute of Fundraising and Small Charities Coalition has announced they will hold a joint forum on fundraising regulation for small charities in February as part of their wider consultation process.

In a statement released today, the IoF and SCC said that the Smaller Charities Fundraising Forum will take place in central London on 4 February and will be attended by both George Kidd, chair of the working group into the fundraising preference service and Stephen Dunmore, the new interim chief executive of the fundraising regulator (pictured).

The joint statement said that the event is part of the two organisations' ongoing consultation with the wider small charities sector about the changes taking place in charity fundraising after last year’s Etherington Review.

On Monday, the IoF and SCC launched an online consultation for small charities which, the statement said, has already received over 400 responses from “smaller charities keen to have their views on the regulatory structures heard”. The results of the online consultation will be announced at the forum.

The forum will be the first time that Dunmore, the former chief executive of the Big Lottery Fund, will be appearing in public in his role with the regulator. Dunmore’s appointment was first announced in December, following the appointment of Lord Michael Grade as chair of the regulator in November.

Peter Lewis, chief executive of the Institute of Fundraising said: “As the body representing thousands of individual fundraisers and hundreds of fundraising charities we know how vital it is that the views, ideas and concerns of smaller charities are taken on board.

"We are delighted that Stephen Dunmore and George Kidd have agreed to attend what we hope will be a constructive event. It shows a real willingness to listen to the voices of charities and fundraisers themselves and bodes well for future involvement of the fundraising community as the new regulator starts operating”.

Jon Barrett, acting chief executive of the Small Charities Coalition said: “We know that smaller charities often find it hard for their views to be heard on the major decisions affecting them. That is why this event and consultation process is so important in giving an opportunity for smaller charities to have their say.

“It is fantastic that Stephen Dunmore and George Kidd, who have such vital roles in the shape of fundraising regulation affecting the charity sector, will be talking directly to smaller charities and fundraisers.”
