Institute of Fundraising launches free complaints phone line

05 Dec 2019 News

The Institute of Fundraising (IoF) has launched a free phone line for people looking for confidential support and advice about safeguarding issues they have witnessed or experienced.

It is working with Tell Jane, an HR consultancy, to provide support for confidential queries or make a complaint anonymously.

This is part of the IoF’s efforts to address safeguarding and whistleblowing concerns across the sector, which are being led by the Task Group on Sexual Harassment in Fundraising.

The IoF says it encourages anyone who has witnessed or experiences harassment at an IoF event or who wishes to complain about a member’s behaviour to use its complaints procedure or the Tell Jane service.

In an article for Civil Society Media's Fundraising Magazine, Isobel Michael, an IoF trustee, said: “I hope this will help to build trust in the reporting process and encourage fundraisers who have experienced sexual harassment to feel that they can report concerns, both now and in the future.

“It is now up to all of us to take responsibility for stamping out sexual harassment altogether. Lead by example, call out any inappropriate behaviour you witness and ensure you are contributing to a positive, safe and inclusive culture.”

The Tell Jane free phone helpline is 0800 689 0843.

Civil Society Media’s Fundraising Live conference takes place on 6 February 2020, providing an excellent platform for the fundraising community to come together, share ideas and experiences, and learn from the successes and failures of fellow professionals.
