The Home Office has today launched a programme of support for charities and other organisations who are working to challenge extremism in their communities.

The funding, which forms part of the Home Office’s wider initiative to counter extremism, its four-year programme Building a Stronger Britain Together. Groups can apply online for in-kind support up to the value of £75,000, or grant funding of up to £50,000.

The programme aims to support civil society and community organisations that work to create more resilient communities, stand up to extremism in all forms and offer vulnerable individuals a positive alternative.

In-kind support can include social media training, help setting up a website, and advice on media activity. There will be a new call for bids for each new financial year to make sure the funding has impact across all four years, and to make sure that support is always given to groups doing the most relevant and innovative work.

UK Community Foundations, the umbrella body for community foundations, in partnership with M&C Saatchi, has been awarded £800,000 from the Home Office to deliver the programme via community foundations. These foundations will then deliver the funds to charities and organisations in its own areas.

Fabian French, chief executive of UK Community Foundations, said: “UKCF is very pleased to be working with the Home Office on this important initiative. Community Foundations up and down the country work right at the heart of local communities. They have an unrivalled understanding of local needs and challenges and are best placed to deliver grants to local organisations.”

Organisations can bid for grant funding and in-kind support for specific projects that deliver this goal through the Home Office’s application process. More information on this can be found here.
