A group of IT volunteers have designed and built a microsite and intranet facilities for a Cornwall charity in a 24-hour ‘Geekathon’.

The Sensory Trust won a prize draw for local charities organised by Employ a Geek, to receive 24 consecutive hours of IT support.

Cornwall College donated a room between 6pm on Friday 10 February and 6pm on the Saturday for volunteers to help with the projects, build a new resources section of the website and a new internal system. The new section of the site is expected to go live next month once it has been fully populated with content.

Victoria Hutchinson, development manager at the Sensory Trust said: “We got far more than we anticipated when we entered the competition. They are still helping in terms of tweaking before the website launches next month.”

Mark Grice, director at Employ a Geek, said that at one point there were 16 volunteers in the room working on the project, and revealed that he planned to organise another event in a few months time for charities in the Cornwall area.

Employ a Geek is a service which matches client's IT needs with an expert or geek in its database.
