Two free online tools for charities to help them measure their impact have been launched by New Philanthropy Capital as part of the Inspiring Impact programme.

Both tools are available on the Inspiring Impact website. The first tool, ‘Measuring Up’ is a self assessment tool to help organisations review and improve impact practice.

The ‘Impact Hub’ is an online directory of different tools organisations can use to find resources which can be filtered by category, sector, format and cost. Users can also suggest resources that should be added.

NPC, which manages the Inspiring Impact programme, worked with Charities Evaluation Services and social research collective Substance to design the tools. Inspiring Impact is a 10-year programme, which is funded by the Cabinet Office, Big Lottery Fund and a group of independent funders, and is set to run until 2022.

Before today’s public launch 88 organisations piloted the tools. Samantha Stone, evaluation and services support officer at children’s reading charity, Beanstalk, said: “The Inspiring Impact tools have made a significant difference to our evaluation, helping us to become more outcomes focussed and highlighting the importance of going back to the basics of impact measurement.”

In February the Social Investment Business and Good Analyst launched a free online tool to help charities demonstrate their social impact and attract more investment.
