Free service launched to help small charities manage cash

A free email support service for charities has launched, offering advice on treasury and cash management issues.

Charity Finance Group began running the service today, which is says is aimed at smaller charities with little in-house expertise on how to manage their cash funds or deal with issues relating to foreign exchange.

All charities, whether CFG members or not, will be able to email [email protected] to ask for guidance.

CFG will compile some of the more frequently asked questions via the email support service on its blog so that charities have a quick reference point for their queries on cash management and treasury.

Andrew O’Brien, CFG’s head of policy and engagement, said: “We have long recognised that there is a skills gap in the sector on treasury and cash management. It is still vitally important that charities invest in these skills and get the right support.

“However, we hope that this email support service will help charities to meet some of their needs and ensure that they are able to maximise their resources as much as possible.”

A CFG report in 2011 estimated that £20m a year was being lost by charities making bad foreign exchange deals.
