The European Commission's Information Society is to hold its first Digital Agenda Assembly, focusing on how to bring “the benefits of a digital society and economy to Europe's citizens”.

Taking place in Brussels on the 16 and 17 June 2011, participants will include industry professionals, research community members, NGOs and representatives from member states and EU institutions.

The Digital Agenda is the European Union’s plan to spread the digital society and economy to all of Europe. This includes updating the single market rules for the digital era, improving internet speeds and improving access to the internet.

Attendees will discuss the progress being made towards the Agenda’s targets, identify new challenges and find ways to address them.

Workshops will address issues such as creating a barrier-free digital society for disabled people, the European Innovation Partnership on Active and Healthy Ageing, digital literacy and ways of making the internet and social networking safer for children.
