The University of Edinburgh has reached its fundraising target of £350m, including a donation of £10m from the writer J K Rowling.
The campaign was launched six years ago to provide funding for research, maintain the university’s buildings and provide financial support to students.
Over the course of the campaign the university received a total of 23,322 donations from a range of sources, including former students, funding councils, major trusts and foundations, corporate partners, government and research charities.
Kirsty Macdonald, the university’s director of development and alumni engagement said: “Fundraising has become an integral part of the university and we will continue to work with supporters to ensure that all areas of the university can flourish.”
The money donated by Rowling is being used to set up the Anne Rowling Regenerative Neurology Clinic for patients with neurodegenerative diseases. Other projects getting support include; the Centre for Regenerative Medicine, the Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies, the Alwaleed Centre for the Study of Islam in the Contemporary World and the Scottish Centre for Diaspora Studies.
Funds raised have also resulted in new student hubs, helped preserve university buildings such as the main library and created more than 700 bursaries for students. The university has featured 12 case study examples of how the money is being spent, on a bespoke website.
