Community Action Derby has warned that up to 50 of its 548 charity members in the Derby area could close by next year due to cuts in local authority funding.

Community Action Derby has warned that up to 50 of its 548 charity members in the Derby area could close by next year due to cuts in local authority funding.

Kim Harper, chief executive of Community Action, told BBC News that many charities are already expecting bad news when Derby City Council announces its funding settlement for the sector later this month.

Harper said the charities most at risk were those without shops or fundraising who rely on grants from local councils to stay afloat.

She said: "It's obviously very difficult to work in uncertain times. It isn't just the council funding, it's the national picture too. There is less funding around."
