This year’s Red Nose Day has broken all records for Comic Relief by bringing in more than £102m for the charity.
With the total yet to be finalised, Comic Relief chair Peter Bennett-Jones revealed at the Bafta awards ceremony in late May that the £102m raised represented the most money brought in by a Red Nose Day ever. The vast majority of the funds, £85m, was donated by individuals - £15.2m of which came via text donations.
Corporate sponsors also helped reach the target, with an £11m contribution from Sainsbury’s – the result of the sale of Red Nose Day merchandise and staff fundraising. The Government also weighed in with a total donation of £16m, £10m of which earmarked for health and education projects in Africa.
