Friday’s Children in Need telethon appeal night raised a record £31m, beating last year’s total by £5m.
Last year’s event raised £26m on the night and £46m in the months following the night.
This year's six-hour fundraiser was hosted by Sir Terry Wogan, with Fearne Cotton, Zoe Ball, Tess Daly and Nick Grimshaw. Wogan said: "Thank you for a wonderful total and all you have done for BBC Children in Need.”
David Ramsden, chief executive of Children in Need, said: “Tonight’s total is incredible. The generosity of people across the UK is truly amazing.”
Ellie Goulding recorded this year’s fundraising single and other celebrities who took part in the 34th annual appeal included Harry Hill, Torvill and Dean and Catherine Tate.
