Charity shops' profits have risen by 3.2 per cent, according to the 2006 Charity Finance Charity Shops Survey, sponsored by BDO Stoy Hayward.

Oxfam has consolidated its position as the most profitable chain after posting profits of £25.2 million, a 22 per cent increase on 2005. Discount commercial retailers are once again perceived as the main competitive threat by shops’ managers, followed by auction sites such as eBay. However, the survey has found evidence of optimism for the future as shop chains look at innovative approaches to increasing income.
