Charity lotteries in 2012/13 raised more than £150m, a 50 per cent increase on two years earlier.
Figures from the Gambling Commission, discussed in Parliament this week, show that the total amount raised for good causes by charity lotteries last financial year was £151.94m. This figure was a significant rise from the £132.05m in 2011/12, and a massive leap from £103.46m in the year before.
The numbers for 2011/12 and earlier have been revised up from figures released by the Gambling Commission previously.
This increase in society lottery revenue for good causes comes as the sector awaits a consultation into the regulation of charity lotteries.
A report released by nfpSynergy in April this year called for the lifting of limits on charity lotteries which prohibit any charity lottery from turning over more than £10m within a year. Regulations also stipulate that lotteries must return at least 20 per cent of their turnover to good causes.
