Charity for seafarers to start specialising in dementia

The Royal Seafarers’ Society (RASS), a charity which provides care and support for seafarers in Surrey, is branching out into specialised dementia care for the first time.

The Royal Seafarers’ Society (RASS), a charity which provides care and support for seafarers in Surrey, is branching out into specialised dementia care for the first time.

RASS has announced plans to build an annexe and create a dedicated dementia unit at its Weston Acres sheltered housing and residential care centre near Banstead, Surrey.

Commander Brian Boxall-Hunt OBE, chief executive of RASS said: “We’ve recognised the increasing requirement for specialist dementia care in homes for the elderly for a couple of years now, and this new report only underlines the importance of providing for this growing proportion of the elderly population.”
