Three charity CEOs are looking to raise £10,000 each for their respective organisations by taking part in their own Olympic Challenge.
David Scott-Ralph of Seeability, Mike Brace of Vision 2020 UK and Peter Corbett of the Thomas Pocklington Trust will take part in a range of challenges in this Olympic year.
All three charities support visually impaired and blind people. Vision 2020 UK is the umbrella body for the sight loss sector with 52 member organisations. Seeability was formerly the Royal School for the Blind, and the Thomas Pocklington Trust supports adults with sight loss in housing and other services.
The CEOs have named themselves the ‘Three Tenners’ and will take part in five individual challenges and five team events. The individual events include badminton, fencing, windsurfing and the London Marathon. Team events include Paralympic sports Boccia, Goal Ball and tandem cycling.
David Scott-Ralph will act as a guide for Mike Brace who is blind. The pair will run 5km together in June. All the events are due to take place between January and October this year.
Scott-Ralph completed the first event of the challenge on 9 January. He competed in the ‘Knacker Cracker’ race on Box Hill in Surrey, stepping in to run in place of Peter Corbett who is currently nursing a broken foot. The participants will be covering their own expenses to make sure that all money raised goes directly to their three charities.
