Charity CEO stole £35,000 from her organisation

Dundee Sheriff Court

The chief executive of a mental health charity is facing jail after she stole £35,000 from the charity she led.

Elaine Fox, aged 51, had been the chief executive of East Neuk Recovery Group Initiative, known as Energi, for more than 15 years.

But she wrote cheques to herself from money intended to go to staff wages, until she was caught by the charity’s finance officer, Dundee sheriff’s court was told.

She also failed to pay the rent to East Fife Council, leaving the charity £12,000 in arrears.

Fox has pleaded guilty to embezzlement and faces sentencing next month.

She has now repaid almost £16,000.
