Health charity the Neuroblastoma Children’s Cancer Alliance has refused a £6k donation from Tommy Robinson, leader of the English Defence League.

Health charity the Neuroblastoma Children’s Cancer Alliance has refused a £6k donation from Tommy Robinson, leader of the English Defence League.

Robinson had set up a JustGiving fundraising page on behalf of Amelia-Mae Olwen Davies, who is in need of cancer surgery costing over £250,000 which will not be funded by the NHS.

He had raised £5,798.87 for Amelia-Mae, who is being supported by the Neuroblastoma Children’s Cancer Alliance (NCCA).

But yesterday, the charity had refunded the £5.798.87 raised and offered to reimburse Amelia-Mae's appeal with the money raised by Robinson so far from the charity's general funds.

Bettina Bungay-Balwah, acting chief executive of the Neuroblastoma Children's Cancer Alliance UK, said the charity does not accept political donations.

"The Neuroblastoma Children’s Cancer Alliance is politically neutral and, as such, is not associated with the EDL and its fundraising activities," she said.

"Ultimately, it is our goal to prevent families like Amelia-Mae’s being in the position of having to fundraise desperately to pay for treatment abroad.

"The NCCA UK will continue its efforts to help families access available treatment while making more options available here in the UK through its INBRC research collaborative.”

Tommy Robinson criticised the decision on Twitter yesterday.

Last month, Help for Heroes refused a £3,300 donation from Robinson as part of a sponsored walk.
