Victim Support chief executive Javed Khan is to join Barnardo’s as chief executive next year.

Khan will succeed Peter Brook, who plans to retire next spring after serving nearly a year as acting chief executive of the children’s charity. Brook accepted the role temporarily in June this year after incumbent Anne-Marie Carrie left to go into consultancy.

Khan, a former maths teacher, has been at the helm of Victim Support for three years. He was previously executive director of the London Serious Youth Violence Board, and before that held two senior posts at Harrow Council firstly as director of education and then as director of community and cultural services.

He is currently a board member of the Sentencing Council for England and Wales, the Criminal Justice Council and a London clinical commissioning group.

Judy Clements is still acting chair of Barnardo's trustee board.
