Barnardo’s is still looking into allegations made in the press that its incoming chief executive Javed Khan was involved in an armed dispute in Pakistan, the charity said today.

Khan is currently chief executive of Victim Support, but is due to join Barnardo’s in the same role in May.

Khan had taken a leave of absence from Victim Support while the charity looked into allegations, made in The Mail on Sunday that he was involved in an armed dispute over property in Pakistan.

Khan has now returned to his role as chief executive of Victim Support after the charity found no evidence to substantiate the claims.

Civilsociety.co.uk has learned that Barnardo’s is still investigating the claims itself.

A Barnardo’s spokesperson said:

“We continue to prepare for the arrival in May of Javed Khan as our new chief executive.  Our trustees are looking into the issues raised in recent media reports and note the conclusion of Victim Support’s investigation.”

Khan describes the Mail on Sunday allegations as “either false or a gross distortion of the truth”.
