The 30 charities that will benefit from Bank Machine's ATM giving initiative have been selected from more than 550 applications and can now receive donations via cashpoints.

NCVO chief executive Sir Stuart Etherington chaired the independent panel which selected the charities. Dividing the UK into five regions (Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, northern England and southern England), each has been allocated six different charities to benefit from the scheme. They include Samaritans, St Mungo's and Sue Ryder.

Jim Swindells, director of fundraising at the Stroke Association, which is able to receive donations in Scotland, said: “We’re delighted to be chosen as beneficiaries of this simple, yet innovative, new partnership where the public can make a quick donation at their local Bank Machine ATM.”

Bank Machine operates more than 4,000 ATMs across the UK and managing director Ron Delnevo said: “We are confident that the charities selected, both local and national, offer the UK public a wide choice of good causes. We very much hope that the added income generated will make a real difference.”

Cashpoint network Link, of which Bank Machine is a member, announced an agreement with major high-street banks to enable donations to charity at cashpoint machines last year.
