Social Enterprise UK has launched the Society Profits campaign to raise the profile of social enterprises with the public.

Social Enterprise UK has launched the Society Profits campaign to raise the profile of social enterprises with the public.

The national body for social enterprises has produced a series of posters and digital post-it-style notes (pictured) that organisations can download to promote the message, “choose social enterprise…and society profits”.

Peter Holbrook, chief executive of Social Enterprise UK, said: “Social enterprises are full of passion and enthusiasm for the cause, but they often tell us they lack a common language to describe what social enterprise is and simple tools to get the message across.”

All the material is deliberately unbranded so that it can be used by any organisation and the free campaign pack can be ordered or downloaded from the Social Enterprise UK website.

Last month civilsociety.co.uk reported on the Chartered Institute for Public Finance and Accountancy’s conclusion that the social enterprise label can be adopted by anyone and that, “a working definition of ‘social enterprise’ is needed”.

The campaign poster describes social enterprises as “businesses” which “sell all kinds of stuff and tackle social problems and protect the planet”.

Holbrook added: “We hope the campaign will be taken up with enthusiasm by the champions of social enterprise.”

The campaign is supported by the minister for civil society Nick Hurd, who said: “When a customer chooses to buy from a social enterprise they create additional social benefit, and it’s important that people are made aware of this.”
