UK charities the Brain Tumour Charity and the Lord Mayor’s Appeal were among 200 to benefit from £7.5m raised by brokerage firm ICAP on its annual charity day.

ICAP’s Charity Day, which was held on 9 December 2015, involved donating 100 per cent of all the revenues and commissions generated by the business during that day.

Donations went to 200 charities worldwide, including 13 in the UK.

Since Charity Day was launched by ICAP in 1993, it has raised £127m for over 1,800 charities in the UK and around the world.

The £7.5m raised in 2015 was £500,000 less than was raised by ICAP in 2014 but, according to a statement from the company, still represents “approximately 3 per cent of ICAP’s full year pre-tax profits”.

A number of celebrities also took part to help raise money, including Prince William and Catherine, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and actresses Joanna Lumley and Jennifer Saunders (pictured).

Michael Spencer, group chief executive of ICAP, said: “Support for charitable causes has always been of central importance to ICAP, providing essential funding to allow charities to flourish. However, none of this would have been possible without the dedication and goodwill of our employees, customers, suppliers and our distinguished guests who come together each year to help those people most in need.”
