Plans for a new £6m community hub in South London have been put on hold after a community development charity entered administration.

Peckham Settlement, which went into voluntary administration in August, had planned to open a new headquarters in 2014 with space for a nursery, media facilities, a youth lounge and office space for community groups.

Ben Humphries, associate director and project lead at Architype – the architecture firm which had drawn up the plans, told Architects Journal: “We worked very hard with the numerous stakeholder groups that use the Settlement to come up with an inclusive design with a strong identity, which would have been a fantastic hub for the local community.

"We are very disappointed for these groups that the Settlement has gone into administration and that these plans will likely be shelved.”

The project would have been built on a derelict site and had reached the planning stage, obtained planning permission and gone out to tender.

Nicky Fisher, joint-administrator at Heron Fisher told civilsociety.co.uk that: “The hope is that the charity’s (current) building will be sold and there should be enough money to pay all the creditors in full and with a surplus that will be returned to the trustees.”
