The Disasters Emergency Committee has raised £2.5m for the Pakistani Floods appeal within half a day.

The Disasters Emergency Committee has raised £2.5m for the Pakistani Floods appeal within half a day of airing the campaign.

Since launching the television campaign, fronted by actor Art Malik and journalist John McCarthy, last night, £2.5m donations have poured into the appeal.

But the public display of generosity has been somewhat marred, with the Charity Commission today also issuing a warning to donors to be cautious of bogus fundraising appeals for the victims of the Pakistani floods.

The Commission has directed donors to the official DEC appeal and noted there are registered charities working in Pakistan. The regulator has also given advice on how individuals who wish to fundraise for organisations should go about it.

The DEC continues to accept donations and has been communicating with supporters of the aid effort on the ground.
