£1.5m ‘green funding pot’ made available for environmental charities

06 Sep 2016 News

The People’s Postcode Lottery has announced that it has made £1.5m worth of grant funding available for charities and organisations operating in the environmental sphere.

The £1.5m fund was opened by the Postcode Local Trust - the lottery's grantmaking body - last Friday, and is the second round of grant funding to be made available this year.

The new funding pot of £1.5m takes the total amount of grants made by the trust this year to environmental charities to £3.5m. The first round of funding opened in January, and was worth £2m.

The trust has invited grassroots organisations and local charities working to “improve local ecology and habitats, encourage bio-diversity and benefit the wider environment” to apply for a share of the grant.

Organisations can apply for grants ranging anywhere from £500 to £20,000. The application window closes on 30 September 2016.

'Amazing response to first round of funding'

The earlier round of grants, which were awarded at the beginning of the year, saw almost 200 projects receive an award.

Rebecca Whitley, trust manager at Postcode Local Trust, said: “We had such an amazing response to the first funding round and it’s incredible to think that players of People’s Postcode Lottery have supported almost 200 projects in this category already.

“We really hope to repeat the success of the previous round and we’d love to hear from the many grassroots initiatives that have exciting projects up their sleeves that need support.”
