Ruth Owen joins Leonard Cheshire as chief executive 

Ruth Owen has been appointed as the next chief executive of international disability charity Leonard Cheshire.

A wheelchair user from the age of seven, she is a passionate advocate of disabled people’s rights, and was awarded an OBE in 2012 in recognition of her services to disabled children and young people.

She joins Leonard Cheshire from Whizz-Kidz, where she has been chief executive since 2004. 

Owen will join Leonard Cheshire on 1 February 2021.

Youth Access appoints Cassandra Harrison as new chief executive 

Youth Access, the national network for youth advice and counselling services, has appointed Cassandra Harrison as its new chief executive. She is due to take up the post on 16 November.

Harrison is former director of the Centre of Expertise on Child Sexual Abuse (CSA), she has also held senior roles at Barnardo’s and the Local Government Association.

Harrison said: “I am excited and proud to be joining Youth Access, an organisation at the heart of supporting and promoting the information, advice and counselling services that provide such vital help to young people.

“Whilst this year has presented our sector with unprecedented challenges, it has also reminded us of the importance of Youth Access’s vision for a society where all young people – regardless of their background or circumstances – have somewhere to turn to, and someone to talk to, wherever and whenever, they are in need.

“I look forward to working alongside staff, trustees, members, partners and young people to build on their success so far in making that vision a reality.”

Rob Music appointed chief executive of The Migraine Trust

The Migraine Trust has announced that Rob Music has been appointed its new chief executive. 

He joins the charity from Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust, where he has been chief executive for twelve years. There he oversaw a sustained period of growth and development, including income, staffing, setting up new support services and developing award-winning health information and awareness campaigns.

Prior to that role, Music was chief executive of Endometriosis UK and worked for The Stroke Association and Research into Ageing.

ACEVO announces new trustees

ACEVO has re-elected David Smith, chief executive of Teeside Hospice, and Ruth Marks, chief executive of WCVA to the board to serve a second term. Smith remains deputy chair of ACEVO.

Rashid Iqbal, chief executive of The Winch, has been elected by the members as a new trustee.

Trustees have also appointed Joyce Materego, director of finance and resources at SignHealth UK, as treasurer, and co-opted Tiger de Souza, director of volunteering, participation and inclusion at the National Trust, and Neil Heslop, chief executive of CAF to the board. 

The new trustees will be formally appointed at the next ACEVO board meeting on 3 December 2020.

KIDS appoints a new trustee

KIDS has appointed Sanjay Nair to its board. Nair will take over from Chris Stefani, chief financial officer at DWF Group plc, whose term ends in January 2021. 

Nair is a chartered accountant and management accountant with 28 years of experience in the banking and financial services industry. He is currently the head of finance for commercial banking in HSBC.
