Timeline: One year of the Fundraising Preference Service

The Fundraising Regulator launched the Fundraising Preference Service just over a year ago and is expected to offer an update on how its first year has gone at an event next week.

It was one of the key recommendations of the Etherington review into fundraising practices, which came about because the media had exposed multiple cases of poor practices in the sector, notably that of Olive Cooke. The intention was to give the public a simple and effective way of telling charities to stop contacting them.

But the idea was initially met with trepidation by many in the fundraising sector and for a long while there was confusion about how it could or should operate.

Here's the highlights of our coverage over the past year.
