The charity created the merger between Bowel Cancer UK and Beating Bowel Cancer has today announced that it will keep the former charity’s name, as it releases its new logo.
The charity will be called Bowel Cancer UK and will feature the tag line ‘Beating bowel cancer together’.
The merged charity worked with brand and communications agency The Team to “create a modern and vibrant visual identity, which consists of a new logo, font, tone of voice, colour palette and a refreshed website as well as a new name and strapline”.
The charity spent £56,000 on the rebrand. A spokeswoman said: “As a charity we’re very careful how we spend our money as our fundraisers go to huge efforts to raise vital funds and for that we’re truly grateful. We went through a thorough tender process and picked The Team as they came highly recommended and were cost effective. We spent £56,000 on creating the new brand.”
Star of hope
Bowel Cancer UK’s new logo “incorporates the Star of hope, the international symbol for bowel cancer”. It said that this “represents hope for the future and celebrates the lives of those we have lost to bowel cancer”.
The symbol is used across the US and in several other countries and is said to be “central to the charity’s identity as it strongly resonates with supporters and patients, who are at the heart of what the charity does and the reason they exist”.
The two bowel cancer charities announced in December that they would be merging the following month, as well as launching an “ambitious ten-year pledge”. The charity will support and fund targeted research, provide expert information and support to patients and their families, educate the public and professionals about the disease and campaign for early diagnosis and access to best treatment and care.

“Bowel cancer remains the UK’s second biggest cancer killer, claiming over 16,000 lives a year but we are determined to change that.”
