Sir Bert Massie CBE is chair of the Commission for the Compact. He has worked in the charity sector for 40 years and in 2007 was created a Knight for his services to disabled people.
At present he is a governor of Motability, the leading car scheme for disabled people, and a trustee of Habinteg Housing Association, not to name the number of disability charities of which he is vice president or patron.
Previously he was deputy chair of the National Disability Council, a member of the Disability Rights Task Force, and a trustee of the Institute for Employment Studies. He has also been chief executive of the Royal Association for Disability and Rehabilitation (RADAR).

Civil Exchange, a new think tank which will examine how civil society and the state can work better together, has officially launched with a series of think pieces from sector luminaries.
Charity Finance editor Andrew Hind has joined a new independent panel of sector leaders who will examine and report on the sector’s independence over the next five years.
Representatives from the Office for Civil Society, including Nick Hurd, ignored calls for their input into the evaluation of the Compact overseen by the Commission for the Compact as its final act before closing its doors on 31 March.
Capacitybuilders said yesterday that it would fulfil all its funding commitments to March 2011, and would be discussing with grantholders how to arrange final reporting and payments.
The Commission for the Compact is to be abolished by the government according to reports in The Telegraph today.
Sir Bert Massie has promised that the refreshed Compact will not be a "government fig leaf to cover the imbalance of power with themselves and the voluntary sector".
The Commission for the Compact has released guidance on commissioning the third sector for public services. The Commissioning Guidance is the first in a series of Compact implementation guidance which aims to facilitate better working relationships between commissioners and third sector organisations.
