Sir William Castell

Sir William Castell joined the board of the Wellcome Trust as chairman in January 2006, although he held a number of roles with the Wellcome pharmaceutical company, which was owned by the Wellcome Trust, earlier in his career.

Sir William is also director of the General Electric Company (GE) where he was previously vice chairman and was previously president and chief executive officer of the GE Healthcare.

Between 1989 and 2004 he was chief executive at Amersham plc.

He has also been chairman of the Prince's Trust and a council member of the UK Medical Research Council. In 2012 he was also appointed to chair of the board of trustees at Chichester Festival Theatre. 

He is a graduate of the City of London College.
