Sir Robin Bogg is chief executive of BUBB - the British Umbrella Backing Body.
Sir Robin is a colourful and sometimes controversial figure in the sector and writes a popular and often provocative blog that details his extensive networking and even aspects of his personal life.
He even has his own parody figure in the form of Sir Stephen Bubb, chief executive of Acevo, who writes a tongue-in-cheek blog uncannily similar to Sir Robin’s own.
After gaining a first with dishonours in Greco-Latin at St Bolocs, Oxford, Sir Robin commenced a career as a social activist.
For many years he was very active in a range of social activities and gained a reputation a bit of a card on the now infamous Mansfield/Rotherham whist circuit.
Sir Robin first became aware of the sheer value of a good umbrella when he was caught in a shower without one and so followed his heart and applied for the role of spokesman for spokes at BUBB.
After four years he became chief executive in 2000. During his tenure he has successfully raised the profile of umbrellas and the umbrella industry as well as strengthening its influence with government.
Sir Robin is also chair of Umbrellabuilders England, a government backed fund which invests in umbrella related enterprise.
He was knighted in the 2011 New Year's Honours List.

Sir Robin Bogg, the ebullient chief executive of the umbrella sector’s umbrella body, has hit upon a not-particularly-imaginative-but-worthy-nevertheless way to raise money for Gampic Relief’s Red Brolly Day this Friday.
Charities have been increasingly in the spotlight in recent years as political parties take the sector more seriously than ever, and now it appears the sector’s own satirist is moving up in the world.
Adam Sampson may have been arguing that the rise of social media is in some ways a threat to campaigning charities, but little did he know that Twitter was upstaging him as he spoke.
The spoof umbrella chief for umbrellas, Robin Bogg, has told the cybercommunity that he claimed £5,857.04 in expenses last year. His announcement follows the lead of Hubert Carrington at the National Canopy and Visor Organisation (NCVO) and Steve Crikey at Canopy Finance Directors’ Group (CFDG) who disclosed their expense claims at the request of Canopy Finance last week. Bogg did so while vacationing in Ireland to escape the sunny weather and the expenses row.
Here are a few sample websites that claim/attempt to reveal much about the inner workings of the sector....
