Sharmila Nebhrajani
Chief executive, Association of Medical Research Charities from July 2011
Sharmila was appointed chief executive of the Association of Medical Research Charities in July 2011 as an expert in audit and corporate governance.
Having trained as an accountant and receiving a first degree qualification in psychological science at Oxford University Sharmila entered the private sector working with Coopers and Lyband, Cable and Wireless and Price Waterhouse where she was assistant director of finance.
In 1996 she joined the BBC and held a number of senior roles at the media institution including heading up the Future Media and Technology team.
Within the non-profit sector she has been a board member of the Charity Commission and the audit committee of the Institute of Cancer Research, of the Olympic Lottery Distributor and the Royal Shakespear Company. She has also been deputy chair of the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority and a lay member of the Human Tissue Authority.
