Sarah Cannings

Sarah Cannings is a solicitor at Bates Wells & Braithwaite who qualified into the charity & social enterprise department at BWB in September 2009.

After graduating from Leeds University in 2002, Sarah worked for several years as an account manager in a national marketing and public relations consultancy, before pursuing a legal career. She gained a Graduate Diploma in Law, and a Legal Practice Course at BPP Law School, passing the latter with distinction in 2008.

She also volunteers at the Blackfriars Legal Advice Centre in South London and for a small charity called HandinHand which helps refugees in East London.

Land tax ahoy

Nick Ivey and Sarah Macleod assess the likely impact of the final version of the CIL. The planning act 2008 introduces a new tax called the Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL). This tax will be levied on the development of land and buildings and will hit both organisations intending to develop land or buildings for profit and those wishing to make improvements or alterations to property they already own, and will retain.
