Laura Nelson
Head of development and communications, The Ethox Foundation from June 2011
Oxford Foundation for Ethics and Communication in Health Care Practice (The Ethox Foundation) appointed Dr Laura Nelson as the first head of development and communications for the charity in June 2011.
The role calls for Laura to develop and implement the organisation's marketing and fundraising strategy from scratch, and she will call on her expansive communications experience to do so.
With a doctorate in neuroscience and a degree in phamacology from the University of Cambridge, she applied her knowledge to public sector communications for five years in roles such as interim head of communications at the Human Tissue Authority and developing the strategic plan for the Medical Research Council. She continued her interest as a science journalist, writing for New Scientist, the Guardian, Nature and a Brazilian newspaper.
Laura runs the award-winning public speaking club, Camden Town Speakers and has pioneered a series of events with MPs and other high-profile speakers.
In the charity sector she is a speaker for Womankind and advises on communications strategy for the Fabian Women's Network.
