John Bines is director of funding and marketing at international health charity Sightsavers where he leads a team of 65.
John is responsible for building financial and other support for the charity’s work in more than 30 developing countries, with a main focus on continuing excellent supporter care for the charity’s many fundraising supporters and developing new markets such as Italy and the USA.
John joined Sightsavers in June 2005 from Save the Children, where he was director of supporter relations and fundraising. Prior to that and after graduating in Maths and training to be an actuary, John worked in financial services with Lloyds TSB, Royal Sun Alliance and, most recently, as group marketing director with AXA.
In 2003 he decided to leave the financial services sector to use his skills and experience to help improve the lives of some of the world's most marginalised people.
