General Lord Richard Dannatt

President, Help for Heroes

The former head of the British Army, General Lord (Richard) Dannatt GCB CBE MC ADC is a founder patron of Help for Heroes in November 2011 became its first president.

He was a soldier for 40 years and on his retirement in 2009 was appointed to the ceremonial post of Constable of the Tower of London by the Queen and as such is also a trustee of Historic Royal Palaces and the Royal Armouries.

From late 2009 to 2010 he was an informal advisor to David Cameron on defence issues and became a crossbench member of the House of Lords in January 2011.

He is also a trustee at the Windsor Leadership Trust and chairman of the Strategic Development Board at Durham Global Security Institute. In December 2011 he also became the president of the Norfolk Churches Trust.
