Charity Commission urges charities to get ready for GDPR

The Charity Commission has reminded charities to make sure that they are on track to be compliant with new data protection rules that come into force later this month. 

It published a news story on its website this morning reminding charities that GDPR, a new European data protection law, will applies to all organisations handling personal data. 

The Commission directs charities to guidance from the ICO, as well as various charity umbrella bodies which have produced tailored guides. 

It also urged charities to make sure that the details the Commission holds about them is correct. 

GDPR comes into force on 25 May, when a two-year transition period comes to a close. 

The Commission said trustees should: “Think about whether you need to put processes in place to deal with requirements asked for by GDPR around accountability, transparency and security too.”
