Gerry Salole

Gerry Salole is chief executive of the European Foundation Centre (EFC) in Brussels, and has held the post since 2005. His previous posts have included serving as representative of the Ford Foundation’s Southern Africa office, based in Johannesburg, and director of the Department of Program Documentation and Communication of the Bernard van Leer Foundation, based in The Hague.
Gerry has also worked for Save the Children Federation (USA) in Ethiopia and Zimbabwe, Redd Barna (Norwegian Save the Children), Oxfam UK and UNHCR in Ethiopia.

He is the chair of TrustAfrica, an independent private foundation set up in Dakar, Senegal, in 2006 to promote peace, economic prosperity, and social justice throughout the continent. He also serves on the board of Alliance Publishing Trust in London.

One Europe philanthropy?

Support the campaign for the creation of a European Foundation Statute, urges Gerry Salole. The European Commission (EC) has launched a public consultation to assess the level of demand for a European Foundation Statute. It has also published a feasibility study that explains the potential impacts of allowing foundations to be established and recognised at the level of the European Union. The European Foundation Centre (EFC) is convinced that the creation of a European Foundation Statute would bring considerable benefits to the public interest, by increasing the level and effectiveness of philanthropic activity in Europe
