Daleep Mukarji

Daleep Mukarji retired as chief executive of Christian Aid in April 2010. He had worked in this position since 1998. In early 2011, however he joined the board of Excellent Development, which supports development in Africa, as a trustee.

He previously ran a rural community health and development programme in India where he is from. He was also general secretary of the health agency of the National Christian Council of Churches in India and executive secretary for health, community and justice at the World Council of Churches. 

Mukarji has a Masters degree in social planning for developing countries and holds two honorary law doctorates. In 2008 he was awarded an OBE for his dedication to poverty eradication.
