William Shawcross, the Charity Commission's chair, and Helen Stephenson, its chief executive, are to appear before the Digital, Culture, Media and Sport Committee next week.

They will appear on in the Commons on Wednesday 29 November at 10.15am to discuss “the work of the Charity Commission” and the session will be streamed on Parliament TV.

It is the first time that the regulator will appear before the DCMS select committee and it has been two years since the Commission’s leadership has appeared before MPs.

When the Office for Civil Society moved from the Cabinet Office to DCMS in 2016, oversight of the Charity Commission moved from the Public Administration and Constitutional Affairs Committee to the DCMS Committee.

The last time that the Charity Commission gave evidence before MPs was in November 2015, when it appeared before PACAC as part of the inquiry into fundraising

As a non-ministerial department, it is expected that the Commission appears before MPs around once a year to provide an update on its work.
