Fake Charities? Bogg's Blub? Intelligent Giving? 3

IT | John Tate | 1 Jun 2009

Here are a few sample websites that claim/attempt to reveal much about the inner workings of the sector:

1.       Fake charities – http://fakecharities.org/

2.       Intelligent Giving - http://www.intelligentgiving.com/

3.       Bogg's Blub -  http://boggsblub.blogspot.com/

These sites have stirred up quite a storm. Should we encourage them? Do they add value to the sector?

Claim to reveal the inner workings of the charity sector? I don't know what you're talking about. I am just a guy with a passion for umbrellas, doing what I do. Usually badly. What I do know is that in the umbrella sector we have our own sites causing a stir, namely Unintelligible Drizzling and fakespokes.org. Keep things hidden I say.

For a real insight into issues from a spoof point of view go to the blog of my parodyist, Stephen Bubb. Honestly, it is genius, real "you couldn't make it up" stuff.

PS You remind me of a consultant I know in the brolly sector called Jeanne Louvre

So based on a sample of one so far the answer seems yes. Don't be shy - come on, add your views?

Are sites like fakecharities.org unfairly represneting the sector and giving it a bad name? Or are they uncovering something that we should and want to know about?

Certainly. Everyone enjoys a bit of controversy and these sites help to raise important issues in an engaging way.

Even when such stirrers have gone about it the wrong/unfair way, such as fakecharities.org, it can raise a fundamental issue which deserves consideration.
