Cancer Research UK has announced that it is developing a new smartphone app that will provide more services, including donations, than its current app on a greater range of devices.
Due to launch by the end of March, the app will operate on iPhone, Blackberry, Android and Windows 7 and deliver a variety of content to users including information about the disease, the location of its charity shops and information about the charity’s fundraising events.
Users will also be able to set up one-off and regular donations using the app and later versions of the app are set to include a Cancer Research UK shop where users will be able to buy items such as clothing.
Michael Docherty, head of online marketing at Cancer Research UK said: “An app that makes donating quick and easy offers us a great opportunity to grow our income and with more developments in the pipeline, we look forward to offering our supporters one simple and convenient way to donate, fundraise and find out more about our life-saving work.”
Users of the new app, developed by Corethree, will also be able to access the Core service portal app where they can buy things like train and bus tickets. They will have the option to round-up the price of the item with the difference going to the charity.
Last May the charity launched a Signs and Symptoms app for iPhone and Android to raise awareness of the early signs of cancer. Cancer Research UK said that for the time being Signs and Symptoms would remain as a separate app, although some of its content will be included in the new app.
